Sea Kayaking Breaks at Preseli Venture

sea kayaking courses

Our sea kayaking courses provide the perfect opportunity to explore our Coastal National Park in Wales. Sea kayaking along the coast from Preseli Venture means that in a short time you can be away from other people, exploring the hidden coves, beaches and sea cliffs of the coastline, leaving only footprints in the sand, and taking away happy memories, health, and fitness.

We can offer you a progressive series of sea kayaking packages to suit the total beginner, stretch the intermediate paddler, and ensure that enough skills, fitness and understanding are acquired to go "Island Bagging". From floating in a tranquil bay surrounded by sea birds, through to the exhilaration of surfing a sea kayak through roaring tidal races our sea kayaking packages offer a structured approach to both the sport and the exploration of the National Park.

Your kayaking sessions will be led by our fully qualified and friendly instructors who know the Pembrokeshire coastline like the back of their hands, and you'll stay at the comfortable Preseli Venture Lodge. All your food for the weekend Friday night to Sunday lunch is provided, meals are home cooked and wholesome, and vegetarians are happily catered for.

2008 has been an excellent year for sea kayaking, with the AT SEA WITH THE SEALS and ROCK AND ROLL weekends booking up very quickly. We've added aloads more events for 2009 in view of the fact that sea kayaking the Pembrokeshire coast just gets more and more popular:

Pembrokeshire may not have any Monroes, but it's rumoured there are 100 or more islands for you to bag! When you can reliably handle yourself and your kayak in rough water and tide races, can kayak for more than an hour without your paddle turning to lead, and enjoy the occasional ducking, this is the event for you! In the company of our experienced kayak guides you'll explore the offshore Islands of Pembrokeshire, harnessing the power of the tide streams you'll cover amazing distances in your sea kayak. You'll encounter creaming surf, whirlpools and exhilarating waves and perhaps be joined by seals and dolphins.

What do I need to wear and what equipment will you supply?

We'll provide you with a kayaking 'long john wetsuit' underneath which you'll wear your own bathing suit and a long woollen or fleece sweater or thermal top. We'll supply kayak jackets, buoyancy aids and helmets that'll make sure that you are warm, safely floaty and well protected. You wear your own trainers on your feet and you're welcome to borrow a pair of wetsuit socks to wear inside your trainers to keep your toes toasty warm!  For the Pembrokeshire Sea Kayak Odyssey you'll need to provide your own camping equipment for your night under the stars, or you'll be able to hire some from us.

How much will a 2-day break cost me?

£225 to include 2 nights adventure lodge accommodation, yummy home cooked from Friday dinner to Sunday lunch (Saturday and Sunday are packed lunches al fresco!), two full days sea kayaking, all specialist equipment, friendly and qualified instructors, PSV qualified drivers and transport for all activities, and train station transfers for certain trains.

How experienced do I need to be to come along?

The AT SEA weekend will suit a beginner paddler, so if you have a little experience of kayaking on lakes, rivers and calm seas then this is the event for you.

The ODYSSEY trip will suit you if you have had a little bit of kayaking experience, it doesn't have to be in a sea kayak, but you'll need to be confident that you can paddle your kayak in a straight line, and turn your kayak! This event comprises 4 full days sea kayaking and one half day, so you will need a reasonable level of fitness.

The ROCK AND ROLL weekend caters for the paddler with a little more experience, if you have your BCU 2*, or if you've taken part in an AT SEA weekend and consider yourself a more intermediate paddler then this event will suit you.

If you have any questions regarding ability levels required, or anything else, please do call or email.

If you have a group of 8 or more we can offer you a sea kayak event MID WEEK, when you'll have exclusive use of the PV lodge and all facilities.
